Guy Fawkes Day

This is a popular celebration in England. It is on the 5th November every year. Children make a man with old clothes and paper. He is called Guy Fawkes. They put him in a wheelbarrow. They push their Guy from house to house and they ask people for ‘a penny for the Guy.’ People give them small coins. They buy food and fireworks with this money.

In the evening of 5th November, people have big fires in their gardens or in town parks. They burn the Guy and they have lots of fireworks. It is also traditional to eat outside. Many people cook potatoes on the fire. Guy Fawkes Day is a very old celebration in England and children love it. The main problem is the weather because it very often rains in November!
