Notting Hill – the Carnival

Notting Hill is a part of London. Every year at the end of August there is a very big street carnival. The carnival lasts two days. There is a very big Afro-Caribbean community in Notting Hill and these people started the Carnival. The first Carnival was in 1964. It was a children's street party with Caribbean steel bands. Now the Carnival is enormous and very popular. Nearly 2 million people go to the Carnival every year.

The first day of the Carnival is for children. Seventy-five costumed bands and decorated floats follow a three-mile route through Notting Hill. The second day is for adults. Everyone is welcome to this multi-racial event.
