Friday the 13th
In many countries, the number thirteen is extremely unlucky. Many people believe this is because, according to the Bible, there were thirteen people present at the Last Supper. However, for the ancient Romans, thirteen was already an unlucky number. For them it was a symbol of death and misfortune.
The 13th of the month is generally considered to be very unlucky indeed; it is not a good idea to start anything, to get married or to travel on the 13th. However, it is doubly unlucky if it is on a Friday – and the worst day of all is Friday 13th May, although nobody seems to know why this is so.
