Ramadan
Every year Muslims all around the world celebrate Ramadan. Ramadan lasts one month and during this time Muslims mustn’t eat, drink or smoke in the daytime. They can eat a big meal before dawn. They can’t eat all day but they must wait until it is dark before they have another meal.
The month of Ramadan ends with the festival of Eid Al Fitr which lasts three days and nights. People celebrate by getting dressed up and visiting friends and relatives. They exchange gifts and share big meals. The evening meals during Ramadan are occasions for the Muslim community to get together.
Muslims are expected to do good things during Ramadan. They must help poor people. They go to the Mosque and pray. Because Islam uses the lunar calendar, the month of Ramadan starts on a different date every year.
