The Edinburgh International Festival
The Edinburgh Festival takes place in August every year for three weeks. It is the biggest international arts festival in the world. There are more than 100 productions of music, dance, theatre and opera by the best artists from many different countries.
At the same time as the official festival there is the unofficial Fringe festival, which is very big, with over 1000 productions of great variety and originality. There are also a Book Festival, a Jazz Festival and a Film Festival so everyone can find something interesting.
The festival is popular and attracts thousands of visitors every year. People come from Britain but also from other countries. During the festival the old city centre is crowded with people enjoying the hundreds of street entertainers. There is a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and it is fun just to spend an afternoon walking around the town.
